Happy Birthday Margo!!

Can you believe Margo is one year old? We certainly can't. We're so happy to have her around - I guess that's a big understatement.
For Margo's birthday, she opened presents, and then got to have her favorite dinner - peas! (Along with turkey sausage and potato.) After dinner she had a cupcake with a candle and we sang happy birthday. She seemed to enjoy it! She did eat a bit of cake and frosting before throwing it on the floor.
Happy birthday Margo! We love you!!

Margo's Birth

Every once in a while I remember that I never wrote about Margo's birth. If you are interested, here's how the whole thing went down. I actually wrote this in May and it's just been sitting in the back end of Blogger. Today seems like a good day to publish it. Note there aren't any parts I'd deem too graphic, though I do mention the word cervix. But that's about it.

As you may recall, Margo was due on Wed., Nov. 26. Of course back then we didn't know it was Margo, because we didn't know if our baby was a boy or a girl. It was just "the baby." Well, I had been hoping that the baby would hold off until after Thanksgiving because my parents were in town. And if you've ever had my dad's Thanksgiving dinner then you know why I'd want to enjoy that fully before dealing with the whole labor thing. Well as you know, we got to enjoy Thanksgiving and then a couple days after that. It got to a point where I was really wanting to get the whole labor thing started. We went for long walks to try to get things going. For one of our walks we decided to walk up the water tower at Volunteer Park. In our minds this was going to be very strenuous and start labor for sure. But it ended up taking like 5 minutes and we laughed because it was not difficult at all. And it didn't start labor...

We had an appointment set up for Wed. Dec. 3 for a check-up to see if we needed to induce. But at 3 am on Monday, Dec. 1, I woke up with cramping in my lower back that was the start of my labor.

They always say you should try to sleep through the early part of your labor since you won't get any sleep later, so I tried that, but couldn't sleep. I went into the living room and started watching Season 1 of "24" to distract myself. That didn't work too well. I woke Pete up and said I thought I was going into labor. I told him to keep sleeping so he went back to sleep. I stayed in the living room. At some point the cramps turned into contractions and I woke Pete up so we could start coping with and tracking them. We put in our Seinfeld Season 1 DVD so we could have some laughs while we dealt with labor...I do remember a chuckle or two but it wasn't long before Seinfeld was just background noise for us.

Our labor at home was also marked by a call from our dear friend Willis. You're asking yourself, why answer the phone if you're in labor and you don't want to talk? Well - here's why. He first called our home phone, which we didn't answer because we were, well, busy. But then he called my cell! In my mind that could mean there is an emergency and Willis is trying desperately to reach us. So Pete answered and when it was just ol' Willis bein' ol' Willis, with no emergency, Pete said, with some impatience, "IT'S NOT A GOOD TIME, WILLIS!" Pete then confessed that I was in labor and swore Willis to secrecy, because we didn't want to jinx the labor and possibly stop it. Yes folks, it's true that labor can be jinxed. Anyway Willis swore to keep our secret, and thus Willis entered the story of our labor, as he has entered all of our major milestones, including our first date, engagement and wedding.

Our doula, Rebecca, had told us about an online tool called Contraction Master where you track your contractions. We weren't supposed to go to the hospital until my contractions were 4 minutes apart, 1 minute long, for one hour. We ended up having some issues with the handy-dandy contraction website (Pete clicked "Enter" instead of the spacebar a couple of times) but ultimately around 11 am we had hit the mark, so we called our midwife practice and Rebecca and headed off to the hospital -- Swedish Ballard.

By the way, contractions hurt a lot.

The drive to Ballard was not fun. At one point on the Aurora Bridge, Pete was behind a really slow minivan going about 5 miles an hour and I tried to be calm about it but eventually I suggested that he go around so we could get to the hospital faster. And he kindly did.

At the hospital we were greeted by a nurse who didn't seem to know we were coming, yet pretended to know, but then called us by the wrong names. This was upsetting, but luckily we never saw that nurse again. All of the nurses the rest of the time were amazing!

Rebecca met us at the hospital. Kathleen, the midwife on call, checked me and I was dialated to 4 cm. Everyone was really impressed with this - "I can't believe this is your first baby - you're so far, so fast!" Pete and I were excited by this. I got into the Jacuzzi and it really helped me feel better and work through the contractions.

Pete and Rebecca were an amazing team.

As time went on, as tends to happen with labor, they got closer together, more intense and more painful. I think it was about 6 pm when I hit my wall - I wanted to get back in the Jacuzzi because that had helped so much a couple hours before. When it didn't help even one bit, I knew that I wanted some sort of pain medication.

Kathleen checked me again and I had only progressed to 5 cm. After over 6 hours, barely any progression. It was very discouraging. After all that time, we thought for sure I'd be close, or at least closer, to the 10 cm we were aiming for. If we'd been close we would have asked for a milder pain medication, but after so much work and no progress, I asked for an epidural.

My pain medication plan had been: I wanted to try labor without an epidural, for a couple reasons, but I wasn't opposed to it either. So I wasn't disappointed when I decided to go for it. And I felt that I'd suffered for a while and gave it my best shot. We'd spent a lot of time walking, rocking, different coping strategies and I was unable to either a) get in the zone b) stay distracted.

During our time in the birthing suite, we had my MP3 player hooked up to the stereo and set it to play my "airplane mix" which is a ton of mellow songs to help me snooze on a plane. I think probably a lot of the songs drove Pete crazy, as they include lite hits from folks such as Air Supply. But his favorite moments were when "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" by Meatloaf came on, and his #1 moment - when Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" came on right when the anesthetist was putting the epidural needle into my spine. She told me to curl my back "like cooked shrimp". After she left the nurse told us that Emily is everyone's favorite anesthetist, and she was going to retire soon so they were going to throw her a party including a platter of cooked shrimp because that's her favorite line. Our nurse during the largest chunk of our labor was Linda. I really loved Linda. I hope she is doing well. It's funny how the nurses come in and out and shifts end and you just never see your nurse again, and it's kind of sad.

Anyway I was absolutely GIDDY after the epidural took effect. I was having a great time and suggested to Pete and Rebecca that we throw a party. But Kathleen said that we should all take a nap to prepare for later. She said she'd come back at 9. They had also started me on Pitocin, which I'd agreed to, to try to kickstart the baby's progression, as the baby hadn't started to move down into my pelvis yet, and my water hadn't broken yet either. Kathleen didn't want to break my water to encourage the baby to move down, because it was a possibility that if she broke my water, and the baby came whooshing down to my cervix, there was a risk of cord prolapse, which is very dangerous and could become an emergency. So Pitocin is a drug that regulates, increases the frequency and intensity of contractions.

So Kathleen said she'd come back at 9 to check my progress and we'd go from there. Unfortunately while we were trying to nap, some CRAZY SOUNDS started happening outside. It sounded like a drunk person was playing a tuba on the street outside the hospital. We called the nurse, who called some other people in to try to figure it out. It would start and stop and no one could figure out what it was. Eventually someone figured out some hospital maintenance folks were doing some loud maintenance. They were asked to stop!

I don't think I slept during our assigned nap time because I was too keyed up. Pete and Rebecca slept some. When Kathleen came back to check on me, I'd made NO PROGRESS despite the Pitocin. Neither my cervix nor the baby had budged. We were super bummed. At this point Kathleen recommended a cesarean section. Her main concern was the combination of my water not having broken yet and the baby not moving down. If my water broke on its own, that could lead to cord prolapse too.

Kathleen didn't order us to have a c-section, but suggested it. So Pete and I discussed it, with some input from Rebecca, and decided to go for the c-section. We felt that as a midwife, Kathleen would not recommend a c-section unless she thought it was necessary. During our pregnancy, we read a lot of books and talked to other pregnant couples, and there is a feeling out there, with some statistics to back it up, that some OB/GYN's push for c-sections when they're not really needed, because then the labor moves along quicker and - some say - the c-section is more dramatic and interesting for the doctor. I don't have stats for you, this is just what I recall anecdotally from our labor prep studies. And that is partly why we chose a midwife as our practitioner instead of an OB/GYN.

I think that was about 10 pm. After that things moved very quickly. More drugs were administered to me. We asked that Rebecca be allowed to come into the operating room with us. We'd heard that doulas aren't always allowed in the OR. Luckily the staff for our surgery was fine with it. Pete and Rebecca went ahead because they had to get washed up and put scrubs on. I said goodbye to Linda and I felt really sad that she wasn't coming with us, because she'd been there with us for so many hours. She squeezed my hand and they wheeled me away.

The OR was on a different floor. The doctor on call came and met us in the hallway. She was the nicest doctor ever - Dr. Kurachi. Everyone else introduced themselves. The nurse asked me my name and had me confirm what kind of surgery I was going to have. Glad they double-checked that! We asked the staff if Pete could announce the sex of the baby, and they all agreed.

Pete and Rebecca stayed up by my head while the doctor performed the surgery. Rebecca had promised to narrate what the doctor was doing, but I started to feel queasy so I asked her to just tell me when the baby was out, which she graciously did.

When Dr. Kurachi saw the baby, she said that the baby's head was resting on my pelvic bone, and wouldn't have moved down anytime soon. She also said the baby was sticking out its tongue - probably mocking us all for trying to get it to come out before it was ready! Yes, I'm saying "it" because at that moment we still didn't know boy or girl. It was 11:55 PM on Dec. 1, 2008.

Most of you have probably heard this part of the story. The doctor held up the baby so Pete could announce the sex. "It's a...boy?" he said. All of the staff shook their heads, covered in masks of course, so he then said, "It's a girl!" He had been confused about the umbilical cord...

So that is how Margo was born. The nurse took her to be weighed and Pete stayed close by her. She was crying but stopped as soon as Pete spoke - she recognized his voice! Very soon after, while the doctor was still finishing my surgery, Pete brought Margo over to where I was. She was beautiful and sweet and we loved her right away.

Recovering from a c-section was not my favorite but it also wasn't as bad as some people have experienced, so I was relieved about that. It was hard to sleep because I had these automatic squeezers on my legs that would squeeze my legs every 5 minutes or something, for circulation I think, and I couldn't sleep through that. I slept well once those got taken off. In some ways, getting the hang of breastfeeding was harder (and, to tell the truth, sometimes more painful) than recovering from the surgery.

Pete had called my parents, and they were waiting for us when we got back to our room. The rest of the night we had a nurse named Cindy and she helped me get started breastfeeding Margo. We were really good at that while we were still in the hospital. It was after we got home that things got a bit dicey in that department, but we worked with a lactation consultant and eventually she and I both got the hang of it. As Meredith said to me during the tough times of breastfeeding, "Whoever says breastfeeding comes natural is on crack!" Funny, yes, but also a good motto that helped me - and Margo - through!

Anyhoo, we went home on Thursday around 5 or so. We were so happy to be home. Pete had gone to get Sally so she'd be home when Margo got there. He'd taken Margo's little kimono so Sally could get a good sniff of her new sibling. Sally was great with Margo from the beginning.

The end, for now. I'll have Pete take a look and see if he remembers any other details.

We love you Margo! We're so grateful you and all the joy you bring to our lives. You are so funny and sweet!

Happy 10-Month Birthday, Margo!

Margo turned 10 months old on Oct. 1. The biggest moment this month was - drum roll - Margo learned to crawl! She'd been trying for quite a while - she finally did it at our PEPS group on Thursday Sept. 17. At first she was crawling on one knee and one leg like a funny crab. By Saturday she was on two knees. Now she's all over the place!

We had a nice visit from Nan Nan and Grampa Miller - they got to see her crawl! We went to the zoo for the first time with them. Very exciting!

We also had a visit from Granny and Grampy Thompson the first weekend in October - a long weekend that was simply too short!

I am way late on this - slacker mom! New photos for the month of Sept are here: http://picasaweb.google.com/CarolynPeteMargo/Margo13

Happy (Belated) 9-Month Birthday, Margo!

At the Little Cheerful in Bellingham

Doing push-ups instead of napping

First Cheerios!

I can stand!

Margo has had a big month. She got two more teeth - on top - so now she has four. She's started eating finger foods and loves Cheerios the best. She can now sit up on her own - she starts on her tummy, then pushes back up on her hands and somehow swings her legs around and ta da! Seated. She just learned this last Monday. The only issue is that now when it's time for her nap, she'd rather practice sitting up and lying down and moving all around than go to sleep, and we've had several very teary nap sessions.

Margo can also pull herself up to standing now and she's learned to clap. She's been very busy! Her foods now include:
-- Beef
-- Chicken
-- Salmon
-- Broccoli
-- Pears
-- Mango
-- Butternut squash
-- Sweet potato
-- Carrot
-- Banana
-- Avocado
-- Blueberries
Soon we'll introduce wheat and cheese.

Last weekend Pete, Margo and I went on a getaway vacation overnight to Bellingham, WA. We had a wonderful time! We'd never been there before. We took Chuckanut Drive on the way up. It had been rainy until we turned off I-5 onto Chuckanut. Chuckanut was beautiful as promised, and reminded us of Big Sur. We got to Bellingham around 11:30 and not only did our lovely hotel let us check in early, they upgraded us to a water view room for no reason! We had our own little terrace and a nice sized room so Margo could play on the floor without being too crowded. We walked downtown and had a fun lunch at the Little Cheerful, recommended by the lady at the hotel. We then did some shopping and checked out the farmers' market. We walked back to our hotel - Margo napped on the way back and then we had an early dinner at Anthony's which was a short walk from our hotel. This was the first time we fed Margo anything other than Cheerios at a restaurant - she had mashed banana. She enjoyed the banana and was so well-behaved! Margo slept well in the hotel pack-n-play, and Pete and I chilled out on the terrace and watched the sunset.

The next day we ate at the Little Cheerful again because we'd liked it so well the day before. It was just as good, plus one of the servers greeted Margo by name and held her for a bit while we ate. After breakfast we drove around WWU and thought about our friends Hil and Matty and Chili who'd gone there. Then we walked around Fairhaven, a nice neighborhood that used to be its own town. Then we were off - we took highway 9 down instead of I-5 and it was a gorgeous drive. We picked up Sally in Carnation at Bonnie's farm - Sally had a great time on her vacation too.

Thursday night I had suddenly came down with a bad cold, and Margo was teething unhappily, so we thought about not going on our trip. But I think it did me good to get out and once we were done with the morning drive I felt a lot better. And I think the travel and distractions did Margo good as well - you'd have never known she was teething - she was a great traveler and as we like to say, a champ! In Bellingham she got a lot of attention from passers-by and had a smile for everyone.

We had Margo's 9-month check-up on Friday and she's on track and doing well. She now weighs 17 pounds and neither of us can remember how long she is.

Hooray for Margo!! Latest photos are here: http://picasaweb.google.com/CarolynPeteMargo/Margo12

p.s. Blogger adds all these extra spaces, not me! I try to get rid of them and they come back! Grrr.

Happy 8 month Birthday, Margo

Can you believe it? Our little one is 8 months old today.

It's been a big month. We had a great 4th of July. Margo was in a kiddie parade with her friend Neo in Carnation and we went to a fun Fourth cookout at DK & Ash's house. We were back home by 7 and went to bed before any fireworks shows - maybe next year!

This past week we survived the record-shattering heatwave - high of 103 on Wednesday. Our 3rd floor condo with skylights and limited circulation was NOT the place to be, but with a lot of fans, water spritzing, cool wet washcloths, and AC during the day in our offices and Margo's school, we made it through ok.

We also survived Margo's first ear infection and 3 days of 100-101 degree fever. She was a champ through it all, and we didn't suspect she had an ear infection because although she was fussier than usual and a bit feverish, she was still sleeping and eating well. So it was a surprise when the doctor diagnosed an ear infection! She missed three days of school but was back to her old self in no time.

Margo likes to stand while we hold her up. And she seems to be on the verge of crawling, or some form of mobility - when she's sitting up, she leans far forward to reach things, almost getting up onto her knees. She seems moments away from putting it all together. She can somehow move around while just sitting on her bottom. We can't see it happening so it must occur in tiny increments because suddenly she'll be a foot from where we set her, still sitting there happily. She doesn't seem to be doing it on purpose. We think that when she reaches forward for something, that action must push her backwards a tiny bit. Or else maybe she levitates like a little Buddha when we're not looking...

Miss Miller is cheerful and chatty, loves playing with her toys and reading books. She experienced a wading pool for the first time in her new swimsuit, and her face fills with joy every time she sees Sally. Her foods have expanded to include pears, and she's getting three meals of solids a day - two at school and one at home for dinner. She continues to be a good sleeper (knock on wood!), waking up once in the night. Our only feedback for her consideration would be to think about sleeping in a bit later...sometimes she's up for the day at 4:30!!

Pete and I went on our first post-Margo date last night - Margo's school held a "Parents' Night Out" from 6-9 pm. The kids had a picnic up on the playground, and Pete and I went to Dahlia Lounge to celebrate our 4-year anniverary, which was July 30. At first, it felt weird to be out in the world just the two of us! The food was great and we had a lovely time. And Margo had a great time with her friends while we were gone.

Happy 7 Month Birthday, Margo!

Margo will turn 7 months old at 12:55 pm tonight. What a joy she is! Her latest feat is saying "da da da da da da da da." Her food repertoire now includes avocado, banana, sweet potato, carrots, and apples. Avocado and banana are her favorites so far.

I should have noted below that Margo sits up on her own as long as we put her that way.

Correction!

Margo has TWO teeth, not just one! They've both broken through.

Growing, growing

Lots of changes at our house. In addition to her new skill of rolling over onto her tummy, Margo has added sitting up on her own to her repertoire of new skills!

She has also been eating rice cereal and avocado. She seems to like the cereal but is mixed on the avocado. This week - sweet potato and maybe banana! We went to a solid foods class on Saturday -- soon enough Margo will be chowing down on beef casserole puree! (?!)

Oh and last but not least - Margo is getting a tooth!

On Friday I went to a picnic at Margo's school. We went up to the private playground outside on the second floor. Margo was kind of fussy but it was fun to see where she hangs out during the day sometimes and to hang out with her classmates.

Here's Margo with her friend Lucas. She is wearing a huge sweatshirt she borrowed from her classmate because her shirt got dirty.

Margo is 6 months old!

Can you believe it? Margo turned 6 months old on Monday. She celebrated this big milestone a day early by learning to roll over onto her tummy! She did it all afternoon long and kept us busy, because she no longer stays put where we set her down! She had a hard time with her nap on Sunday because she kept flipping onto her tummy in her crib and then getting mad because most of the time she doesn't even like to be on her tummy! Silly kid!

It's been a big couple of weeks for Margo. This week we'll be starting her on some solids. She has also found her feet and loves to grab onto them. She's enjoying books more, and Mark & Rosa loaned us their jumperoo and just this past week Margo became tall enough to enjoy it.

Margo's biggest feats came over Memorial Day weekend. We took a plane to Colorado Springs to meet Thompsons, Sutulas and Aunt Barbara for my mom's 70th Birthday and my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. Margo was a dream on all of the flights. She mostly slept or ate. She had a couple fussy moments but never went into full-on crying mode. We changed a couple diapers on the first leg of the trip but luckily the plane had a diaper-changing station in one of the restrooms! Margo charmed folks on the plane and she was also a charmer with the family the whole weekend. She made it cheerfully through some meals that were longer and later than what she's used to. She slept like a champ in her crib in the hotel and had fun playing on the Spongebob blanket Aunt Kathy brought. She loved meeting those family members she hadn't met yet and she especially jived with her sweet cousins Maddie and Jamie.

We were very relieved that Margo was well to travel. We'd had a rough time lately - she was sick for 2 1/2 weeks and missed 12 days of school due to a stomach bug. 18 days of diarrhea = not fun for anyone, although Margo didn't seem fazed by it at all. We had her see a doctor three times and each time they said as long as she didn't have a fever (she didn't) we'd just have to wait it out. Who knew a kid could have a bug for so long?!?! Luckily she was better by the Tuesday before our trip. Whew!

These include our photos from Colorado Springs.

Happy Summer!

Mother's Day

I had a fabulous Mother's Day last weekend. Margo woke up at 5 so I fed her, and then I got to go back to bed until 7:45 while she hung out with Pete!

THEN we walked to the bagel shop. We got bagels and cream cheese and coffee. And I got an almond latte at Starbucks for the walk home.

THEN Pete went to the grocery store and bought all our groceries for the coming week.

THEN we went to Lunchbox Laboratory in Ballard and got burgers and fries to go. YUM x 100 is all I can say.

THEN Suzanne stopped by and brought flowers and mini chocolate peanut butter cups!

THEN Margo gave me a little frog bell and fried-green-tomato-scented candle she'd picked out for me. She chose the frog bell because we have lots of frog moments together, playing with her frog rattle (that I used to think was a fish and sometimes I forget and still call it a fish), and bouncing in her frog bouncy seat.

THEN Pete gave me some awesome books, including the Elizabeth Strout book of short stories that just won the Pulitzer Prize (which I'm reading now and it's really good).

THEN we watched Curb Your Enthusiasm and ate Cherry Garcia ice cream.

Have you ever heard of a better day than this? I think not!

Happy belated Mother's Day to all you moms out there!!

Happy 5 Month Birthday Margo!

Things are a lot different from last time I wrote. I have gone back to work (on April 20) and Margo has started daycare. Things are going well so far. I think Margo has already adjusted to her new school and seems to really enjoy it! She doesn't even cry when I drop her off. She plays with other babies, really likes her teacher, and even drinks from a bottle! We tried for months to get her to take a bottle and she held out right down to the wire -- she finally drank a whole ounce from Pete about 3 weeks before she was going to start daycare. Hooray for Pete's persistence, and thanks to those of you who helped us in our quest!

On my end, it's a hard transition but I am lucky: my boss has encouraged me to ease in gradually (instead of just tossing me back into the fray, which happens a lot I hear). She's also very supportive and is allowing me to have a flexible schedule at first so I can spend time with Margo in the afternoon and then do some work in the evenings after Margo goes to bed. I am so grateful for this!

Margo is grabbing more things. She can roll from her tummy to her back. She frequently turns from her back onto her side, and it seems that any minute she's going to just keep rolling and end up on her stomach -- we'll see! We've had a breakthrough with tummy time lately; she's more into it and one day at school she did it for 30 minutes without fussing!

We've also had improvements in the land of sleep. Margo will now go down for her nap without bouncing on the yoga ball forever first. She has graduated from sucking on both hands at once to usually just one thumb. She's learning so much and is such a sweetheart! She likes to chatter to us.

Margo had a good 4-month check-up. As of April 8 she was 12 1/2 pounds. She can now wear some 6-month clothes, but also can still fit into some of her 3-month items.

Spring has arrived in Seattle and we're excited for Margo to start exploring more and more.

Happy 4 Month Birthday, Margo!

Margo is 4 months old today! Her recent milestones include grabbing more and more toys, including her soft blocks, and sometimes grabbing things with both hands. Currently her favorite toy is a chain of rings, which she likes to put in her mouth. And lately, Margo has been joining us for dinner at the table in her new high chair.

Margo is experimenting with falling asleep on her own; she has been sleeping in her crib for about a month and now our goal is to get her to sleep without us bouncing her first. So far we're having mixed results but any win is a big win and keeps us going. We're also working on moving up Margo's bedtime so that eventually she'll be going to bed at 8. Right now we're at about 8:30.

We've been having more luck with the bottle lately -- knock on wood -- so we're feeling better about that. I'll be going back to work on April 20 so wish us all luck with that!

We're on a short break between visits from grandparents -- Thompsons were here last week and Millers are coming this week. We are so lucky to get lots of quality grandparent time!

3 Months!

Margo turned 3 months old on Sunday! We celebrated at Red Robin with David and Ashley. Margo was alert and sweet during lunch!

Other milestones for Margo: she has found her hands and enjoys sucking on them. She is also grabbing the rings on her baby gym and pulling on them.

Margo will soon be moving out of our room and into her crib. Right now she sleeps in a co-sleeper bassinet next to our bed. Now that she is bigger we are going to try moving her into her own room. We had a milestone today -- she had 3 naps in her crib. In the past her naps have been in our arms, in the car seat or in the swing. We are very excited!!

Margo just gets more and more fun. She smiles a lot and coos -- we have many good conversations. We were so lucky to have our good friend Katie come visit for a whole weekend. We had a ton of fun. Margo really loves fun Katie!!

We have uploaded new photos to Picasa. Enjoy! http://picasaweb.google.com/CarolynPeteMargo/Margo6

Two month update

We have had a big week. Margo had her 2-month check-up on Tuesday and she now weighs 9 pounds, 13 ounces. She's 21 inches long. The doc says she's healthy and doing fine. We were pretty sure she's doing great but it's always nice to have the doctor confirm.

Margo and I went to the movies yesterday! There's a theater in Bellevue that has a showing for moms & babies every Thursday at 10 am. There are 3 movies to pick from. We picked "Inkheart" and I ended up not being into it at all, but we still had a lot of fun. The other choices were "New in Town" and "Defiance". I think a romantic comedy would have been the perfect sort of movie to watch with Margo, but I didn't think I could deal with Renee Zellweger. I really would've liked to see Defiance, but it's 2 1/2 hours long and it's probably not the sort of movie I'd want to miss any parts of, if Margo was crying or needed her diaper changed. I am going to go back next week so I'll let you know what we see. We'll meet our friends Katie and Heather there, with their babies. Anyway, Margo was great the whole time. She ate, had some alert time, and napped. She only cried a bit but no one cared. It was fun and relaxing.

I got a new carrier for Margo that has opened up my world (see photo above). We have a sling and a Moby wrap, and Pete has had good luck with those, but I have not. When I try Margo in those, she cries like a nut. But I tried our friend Katie's Mai Tai (sp?) on Sunday and Margo sacked out in it immediately! So we bought one on the way home from her house. It's a miracle! We have used it every day. It's great because she falls asleep in it against my chest so we get lots of snuggle time. And then if she wakes up, all I have to do is stand and bounce a bit. It's also great for walking -- we use it to take Sally for walks. Much less cumbersome and problematic than the stroller; it's very difficult to maneuver the stroller and handle Sally, who's not the best behaved on her leash. I am also going to try the Ergo carrier - I'm borrowing one from my friend Amanda to see if I like it.

So hooray for a great week! And, TGIF - we get to hang out with Pete all weekend!

Two months

Margo turned 2 months old today! We have been trying to capture her smile in a photo - this is the closest we've come. It's very close but doesn't quite reflect her full-on smile.

6 weeks

Margo is now 6 weeks old. She is still into eating, sleeping and getting her diaper changed. She also likes to look around, and to play in her pack-n-play. And now that she's getting bathtub baths instead of sponge baths, she loves them!

Pete went back to work last week. He's working 3 days a week in January which is great. The first day Pete went back to work, Margo & I met some of my co-workers out for breakfast at Chace's Pancake Corral in Bellevue. It was quite an adventure and went really well overall. Then Rodley came over for the afternoon. Keeping busy helped Pete's first day go faster for us but we were sure happy to see him when he got home! Likewise for any subsequent days Pete's been at work.

We're all focused on having an outing at least once a day to get practice. Lately we've been to a class, the doctor, Sally's groomer Bonnie's, coffee with Rosa, Walgreen's, and the bookstore. There are a couple other things I'm forgetting I think.
