Correction!

Margo has TWO teeth, not just one! They've both broken through.

Growing, growing

Lots of changes at our house. In addition to her new skill of rolling over onto her tummy, Margo has added sitting up on her own to her repertoire of new skills!

She has also been eating rice cereal and avocado. She seems to like the cereal but is mixed on the avocado. This week - sweet potato and maybe banana! We went to a solid foods class on Saturday -- soon enough Margo will be chowing down on beef casserole puree! (?!)

Oh and last but not least - Margo is getting a tooth!

On Friday I went to a picnic at Margo's school. We went up to the private playground outside on the second floor. Margo was kind of fussy but it was fun to see where she hangs out during the day sometimes and to hang out with her classmates.

Margo is 6 months old!

Can you believe it? Margo turned 6 months old on Monday. She celebrated this big milestone a day early by learning to roll over onto her tummy! She did it all afternoon long and kept us busy, because she no longer stays put where we set her down! She had a hard time with her nap on Sunday because she kept flipping onto her tummy in her crib and then getting mad because most of the time she doesn't even like to be on her tummy! Silly kid!

It's been a big couple of weeks for Margo. This week we'll be starting her on some solids. She has also found her feet and loves to grab onto them. She's enjoying books more, and Mark & Rosa loaned us their jumperoo and just this past week Margo became tall enough to enjoy it.

Margo's biggest feats came over Memorial Day weekend. We took a plane to Colorado Springs to meet Thompsons, Sutulas and Aunt Barbara for my mom's 70th Birthday and my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. Margo was a dream on all of the flights. She mostly slept or ate. She had a couple fussy moments but never went into full-on crying mode. We changed a couple diapers on the first leg of the trip but luckily the plane had a diaper-changing station in one of the restrooms! Margo charmed folks on the plane and she was also a charmer with the family the whole weekend. She made it cheerfully through some meals that were longer and later than what she's used to. She slept like a champ in her crib in the hotel and had fun playing on the Spongebob blanket Aunt Kathy brought. She loved meeting those family members she hadn't met yet and she especially jived with her sweet cousins Maddie and Jamie.

We were very relieved that Margo was well to travel. We'd had a rough time lately - she was sick for 2 1/2 weeks and missed 12 days of school due to a stomach bug. 18 days of diarrhea = not fun for anyone, although Margo didn't seem fazed by it at all. We had her see a doctor three times and each time they said as long as she didn't have a fever (she didn't) we'd just have to wait it out. Who knew a kid could have a bug for so long?!?! Luckily she was better by the Tuesday before our trip. Whew!

Happy Summer!

Mother's Day

I had a fabulous Mother's Day last weekend. Margo woke up at 5 so I fed her, and then I got to go back to bed until 7:45 while she hung out with Pete!

THEN we walked to the bagel shop. We got bagels and cream cheese and coffee. And I got an almond latte at Starbucks for the walk home.

THEN Pete went to the grocery store and bought all our groceries for the coming week.

THEN we went to Lunchbox Laboratory in Ballard and got burgers and fries to go. YUM x 100 is all I can say.

THEN Suzanne stopped by and brought flowers and mini chocolate peanut butter cups!

THEN Margo gave me a little frog bell and fried-green-tomato-scented candle she'd picked out for me. She chose the frog bell because we have lots of frog moments together, playing with her frog rattle (that I used to think was a fish and sometimes I forget and still call it a fish), and bouncing in her frog bouncy seat.

THEN Pete gave me some awesome books, including the Elizabeth Strout book of short stories that just won the Pulitzer Prize (which I'm reading now and it's really good).

THEN we watched Curb Your Enthusiasm and ate Cherry Garcia ice cream.

Have you ever heard of a better day than this? I think not!

Happy belated Mother's Day to all you moms out there!!

Happy 5 Month Birthday Margo!

Things are a lot different from last time I wrote. I have gone back to work (on April 20) and Margo has started daycare. Things are going well so far. I think Margo has already adjusted to her new school and seems to really enjoy it! She doesn't even cry when I drop her off. She plays with other babies, really likes her teacher, and even drinks from a bottle! We tried for months to get her to take a bottle and she held out right down to the wire -- she finally drank a whole ounce from Pete about 3 weeks before she was going to start daycare. Hooray for Pete's persistence, and thanks to those of you who helped us in our quest!

On my end, it's a hard transition but I am lucky: my boss has encouraged me to ease in gradually (instead of just tossing me back into the fray, which happens a lot I hear). She's also very supportive and is allowing me to have a flexible schedule at first so I can spend time with Margo in the afternoon and then do some work in the evenings after Margo goes to bed. I am so grateful for this!

Margo is grabbing more things. She can roll from her tummy to her back. She frequently turns from her back onto her side, and it seems that any minute she's going to just keep rolling and end up on her stomach -- we'll see! We've had a breakthrough with tummy time lately; she's more into it and one day at school she did it for 30 minutes without fussing!

We've also had improvements in the land of sleep. Margo will now go down for her nap without bouncing on the yoga ball forever first. She has graduated from sucking on both hands at once to usually just one thumb. She's learning so much and is such a sweetheart! She likes to chatter to us.

Margo had a good 4-month check-up. As of April 8 she was 12 1/2 pounds. She can now wear some 6-month clothes, but also can still fit into some of her 3-month items.

Spring has arrived in Seattle and we're excited for Margo to start exploring more and more.

Happy Birthday!!

Happy 4 Month Birthday, Margo!

Margo is 4 months old today! Her recent milestones include grabbing more and more toys, including her soft blocks, and sometimes grabbing things with both hands. Currently her favorite toy is a chain of rings, which she likes to put in her mouth. And lately, Margo has been joining us for dinner at the table in her new high chair.

Margo is experimenting with falling asleep on her own; she has been sleeping in her crib for about a month and now our goal is to get her to sleep without us bouncing her first. So far we're having mixed results but any win is a big win and keeps us going. We're also working on moving up Margo's bedtime so that eventually she'll be going to bed at 8. Right now we're at about 8:30.

We've been having more luck with the bottle lately -- knock on wood -- so we're feeling better about that. I'll be going back to work on April 20 so wish us all luck with that!

We're on a short break between visits from grandparents -- Thompsons were here last week and Millers are coming this week. We are so lucky to get lots of quality grandparent time!

3 Months!

Margo turned 3 months old on Sunday! We celebrated at Red Robin with David and Ashley. Margo was alert and sweet during lunch!

Other milestones for Margo: she has found her hands and enjoys sucking on them. She is also grabbing the rings on her baby gym and pulling on them.

Margo will soon be moving out of our room and into her crib. Right now she sleeps in a co-sleeper bassinet next to our bed. Now that she is bigger we are going to try moving her into her own room. We had a milestone today -- she had 3 naps in her crib. In the past her naps have been in our arms, in the car seat or in the swing. We are very excited!!

Margo just gets more and more fun. She smiles a lot and coos -- we have many good conversations. We were so lucky to have our good friend Katie come visit for a whole weekend. We had a ton of fun. Margo really loves fun Katie!!
